Art History

I have always had an appreciation for art and in particular Realism. As a child I spent many hours drawing horses, but it wasn’t until later in my life that I rekindled my love of drawing.

I first began to take adult art lessons when a work colleague mentioned her intention to go to Life Drawing classes at our local Secondary School. I was excited by the idea and joined the class too.

We really enjoyed these sessions and the artist advised us of the Visual Arts Course held at Chisholm College in Dandenong.

As we were working full time we began our Diploma of Visual Arts taking night classes in Drawing, Painting and Life Drawing. These courses not only fuelled my interests but also built upon my skills.

During the three years I attended night classes I met many like-minded aspiring artists and I now have a growing network of artist friends.

Still working full time meant that I was unable to complete my Diploma of Visual Arts, so I started taking night classes with local artists.

I have continued to build my skills and knowledge  by learning from local artists; Geoff Sergeant (Pencil Artist), Sue Jarvis(Watercolour), Leigh Rust ( Paste) and Lesley Barrett ( Scratchboard).

Now retired I have returned to TAFE part time and am working to complete my Diploma of Visual Arts.

Subject Matter

The subject matter I present in my art pieces depicts my love of nature; in particular animals which I feel a string affinity to.

I work predominantly in coloured pencil and Scratchboard but also dabble with pastels and watercolour. My style is Realism, so I work mostly from photographs; these enable me present my subject matter in detail.
