ARTIST BIO

Carole Lees is a watercolour and oil painter.  Born in England, she emigrated to Australia as a child, living in several cities before settling in Melbourne, where she worked in a busy corporate role and raised two daughters.

Lees came to art at the age of 60, after an advertisement in a local newspaper piqued her interest:  "Learn to draw and paint, small friendly group, no experience necessary."  The class would mark the start of an all-consuming passion.

A prolific and multi-award winning artist, Lees enjoys painting landscapes, still life and figures, which are often inspired by her travels around the world.  Recently, she has also begun experimenting with abstract art.  However, regardless of the medium or subject, her works are infused with a prevailing sense of calm and stillness.

Lees was a member of Waverley Arts Society from 2004 - holding the position of Treasurer from 2005 to 2007 - until it's closure in 2015, when she joined Whitehorse Arts Society.  She is also a member of the Australian Guild of Realist Artists (AGRA) and the Victorian Artists Society (VAS).
